Our Story

When we say food-grade, we don’t mean you should eat our products with a spoon.

(Just like food-grade silicone is safe for your kitchen… but you’re not snacking on your spatula.)

Food-grade means the quality and purity of the ingredients. The same standard you’d expect for what touches your food is the standard we hold for what touches your skin. Our products are made with simple, recognizable ingredients you’d feel good about using on yourself and your family — because your skin absorbs what you put on it.

So while our balms and deodorants are meant to nourish your skin (not your stomach), we believe personal care should be held to the same thoughtful, high-quality standard as the food we choose to eat.

Brooklyn Skin Food is a consumer personal care brand that formulates and sells food-grade personal care products for external use only, including deodorants, body balms, and oils.

The term “food-grade” refers to the sourcing and quality standards of the individual ingredients used in our formulations. It does not mean that our finished products are intended for ingestion. There is no single, formal regulatory definition of “food-grade” for personal care products in the United States, and ingredient classifications may vary by supplier and application. We take care to source ingredients commonly recognized as food-grade or food-quality where applicable, but our products are formulated specifically for topical, cosmetic use.

All Brooklyn Skin Food products are designed for topical application as part of daily personal care routines and are not intended to be eaten or ingested.

Brooklyn Skin Food products are sold direct-to-consumer via eCommerce and select online marketplaces.
