Our Story
Did you know that the average person has traces of 50–200 industrial chemicals in their bloodstream, many linked to serious health risks?*
It’s a quiet reminder of the world we live in and how much our bodies are constantly navigating.
Many of us try to eat better. Reading labels. Paying attention to what goes into our bodies. But it’s easy to forget that our bodies are also in constant contact with the world around us, including through our skin.
For Brooklyn Skin Food, that realization became deeply personal.
The brand was born during a season marked by major family health challenges, including cancer diagnoses and ongoing skin-related concerns. It became a powerful reminder that health is precious and worth protecting.
Long before Brooklyn Skin Food existed, there was already a deep interest in nutrition, wellness, and understanding how the body works. Homemade yogurt experiments, simmering bone broth on the stove, microbiome testing, and scrutinizing ingredient labels had become part of everyday life.
But after those health challenges, the perspective shifted.
The focus became less about perfection and more about creating an environment that felt genuinely nourishing and supportive.
One day, in the middle of a familiar ingredient-checking routine, a simple question came up:
What about our skin?
Your skin is your body’s largest organ. It absorbs much of what you put on it. And when looking closely at many personal care products, especially those used on children and family members, there was a feeling that the same standards used for food should apply here too.
Simple ingredients. Recognizable ingredients. Nourishment the body understands.
That sparked another question:
If we’re intentional about feeding our bodies real food, why wouldn’t we feed our skin the same way?
That question became the beginning of Brooklyn Skin Food, right in a Brooklyn kitchen.
Personal care started being approached the same way nutrition often is: through real food-grade ingredients, ancestral wisdom, and modern functional biology. Not to follow trends, but to support the body’s largest organ in the most straightforward, nourishing way possible.
Today, everything is still rooted in one simple belief:
Your skin deserves real nourishment.
