Our Story

Did you know that the average person has traces of 50–200 industrial chemicals in their bloodstream, many linked to serious health risks?*

It’s a quiet reminder of the world we live in and how much our bodies are constantly navigating.

Many of us try to eat better. Reading labels, thinking about what we’re putting into our bodies. But it’s easy to forget that our bodies are also in constant contact with the world around us; including through our skin.

For us, that realization became deeply personal.

These two pictured here are my babies. 4 weeks after my son born, I was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer; shortly thereafter to undergo 1 year of chemotherapy & immunotherapy along with multiple surgeries. It was a shock I never saw coming (like pretty much everyone else who is diagnosed with the C word). Especially as someone who had built a career in digital while also becoming a certified functional nutritionist in NYC, working alongside integrative OB-GYNs and MDs. Health wasn’t just something I cared about it was something I lived and breathed.

Around the same time, my husband was navigating ongoing bouts of skin cancer.

We were two parents with two little kids - with some very real reminders that health is precious and worth protecting.

We had already been immersed in the world of health optimization; fermenting our own yogurt, making bone broth, tracking our microbiome, and reading food labels like it was our job (because it was). But after those diagnoses, that curiosity took on a deeper meaning. It became less about perfection and more about supporting our bodies in the most honest, nourishing ways we could.

One day, in the middle of our usual ingredient-checking routine, we had a thought:

What about our skin?

Your skin is your body’s largest organ. It absorbs much of what you put on it. And when we looked at what we were using, especially on our babies—we realized we wanted our personal care to follow the same philosophy as our food: simple, nourishing, and made from ingredients we truly recognize.

So we asked ourselves:

If we’re so intentional about feeding our bodies real food, why wouldn’t we feed our skin the same way?

That question is what sparked Brooklyn Skin Food - right there in our very real Brooklyn kitchen.

We started formulating personal care the way we approach nutrition: with real, food-grade ingredients, ancestral wisdom, and modern functional biology. Not to follow trends but to support the body’s largest organ in the most straightforward, nourishing way we knew how.

Today, everything we make is rooted in one simple belief:
your skin deserves real nourishment.
